Lavender Hill Farms

Orillia

Lavender Hills Farm is located on twenty-five acres just outside of Orillia in central Ontario. In addition to the existing hardwood and softwood forests, we now have a tallgrass praire that we created two years ago. This year, the bees will be bringing in a very special honey from this new native wildflower meadow in our home yard.
We have seven more bee yards in Muskoka, Oro Medonte, Ramara and Severn townships . . . that’s about five million bees!
As local producers, we harvest and sell our award-winning honeys and handcrafted cosmetics, candles and soaps that we make at select farmers’ markets near us.
Although we don’t ship our products at this time, we welcome all inquiries about our lines of honey and products from the hive.

Foodnet

Ontario

Foodnet: Internet Based Resource Centre

“…internet-based resource centre of the Food Security Workgroup at the Ontario Public Health Association (OPHA). This electronic network links public health units and other organizations involved in food security in Ontario, allowing members to share information about food security programs, policy and research initiatives, community action and advocacy efforts. It is a way for people involved in food security to communicate and work more collaboratively with one another.
In 2002, the OPHA adopted “A Systemic Approach to Community Food Security: A Role for Public Health”, a position paper produced by the Food Security Workgroup. This paper supersedes “Food for Now and the Future”, a discussion paper produced by the group in 1995, and the associated Agenda for Action, developed in 1997.
Objectives for the FoodNet website:
1. Showcase what is currently happening in Community Food Security (CFS) in public health units and related community organizations/networks/councils,
2. Provide a foundation for recognition and legitimization of CFS in public health, including Provincial Mandatory Program Guidelines,
3. Serve as a learning tool for CFS programs, including guidance on forming community partnerships, and
4. Encourage a diverse group of public health disciplines to see their work as relevant to CFS.”

Upper Canada Cheese Company

Upper Canada Cheese Company

“The cheesemakers at Upper Canada Cheese Company are dedicated to producing finely crafted semi-soft artisan cheeses made from one of the richest and healthiest cow’s milk which is Guernsey. With access to the milk of a single herd and the issuance of a “rare” new license for a creamery, we are proud to revive a cheesemaking tradition in Niagara that goes back to the early beginnings of our nation. In doing so, we pledge to use the freshest and purest ingredients possible: to exceed the highest quality standards we know while hand making our cheeses.”
